The title of your blog and it’s posts matters a lot, if you depend on search engines to get traffic. I am not talking about post headlines in this very post, I’m talking about the title tag.

If you already know about the importance of title tags in SEO, there is no need to tell you more about that. But if you are a beginner in this vast blogosphere, you should read this title tag guide by Moz.

Still I think I need to provide little preface here. Actually the text present between our blog’s <title> & </title> tags is responsible for the visibility of the blog on searches. The same text is displayed when our blog appears on the Search engines results. And same thing goes for the posts and pages on our blog.

A title tag can make a big difference how your blog ranks on SERPs, and if it is good, it can turn things positively in your favor.

Coming back to Blogger title tags, what’s wrong with the most of the Blogger templates you use? Mostly, they carry title tags in posts and pages prefixed by the Blog name and that sometimes can cost you on searches. How? Read on.

Take a look at the below screenshot of Google search results and compare the titles highlighted in yellow and green (the screenshot is just for a demonstration of perfect title tags for Blogger):

Why site title tag matter in Google search?
SERPs and your Blog’s title tag

In the above screenshot, the first search result highlighted in yellow describes how unnecessary addition of blog name can restrict the important keywords, or I should say, terms to appear in the search results. More clearly, if we remove the prefixed blog name from the title, those important terms visible in that title in searches.

The second one is fine, but still it can be improved.

Lets come on the third and the last search result in the screenshot. It’s perfect – written clearly, concise and describes what this particular post is about.

So, sticking to the latter, we’ll be optimizing the title tag of our Blogger blog in the rest of the article.
